Why do I have to enter my Personal Identification Number or Company Registration Number (the Croatian “OIB”) when purchasing an .hr or .com.hr domain
Croatian domains are linked to natural and legal persons, therefore, Carnet requires you to enter your PIN or CRN upon registration of a .hr or .com.hr domain.
Does MyDataKnox create a backup of my VPS data?
MyDataKnox doesn’t access your VPS data and therefore doesn’t create backup copies. In order to securely backup your content, you need to use one of our cloud backup service or your own solution. MyDataKnox is not responsible for any data that might be lost due to your lack of a backup copy.
Who can use and manage VPS?
VPS management requires basic server administrator knowledge. You’ll need it to administrate the operating system you’ll install (Linux or Windows) and configure the applications. If you require VPS, but feel that you lack the technical skills needed to manage a server, we recommend that you take a look at our Premium support service.
Can I change the root/administrator password on my server?
Of course. You can change the password at any time within the server itself or through your MyDataKnox user website for server management.
I’m not sure which reseller plan I should get, can I change it at some point?
Of course! You can quickly and easily upgrade your reseller hosting package at any time. All you have to do is send an inquiry to our support team indicating the package you want. Afterwards, our support team will create an offer for the payment of the price difference between the existing and the new package. Your package will become active upon its payment.
Is there a limitation to the number of characters a domain name can contain?
Most domain extensions contain up to 60 characters, but keep in mind that a domain name should not be that long.
The point is for the domain to describe you or your activity in as few characters as possible.

Domain propagation is the time it takes for the changes you execute on the DNS to become visible on the Internet. The propagation itself takes from a few minutes up to 24 hours, depending on the DNS cache of your Internet provider.

Do you have control over DNS in the Hosted Exchange service?
No. You still control your own DNS settings, and you only need to make some minor modifications in the DNS scripts regarding the service itself.
Where is my data (e-mail, calendars, contacts, documents) stored?
All your data is stored in the MyDataKnox cloud within our own data centre in Jastrebarsko, Croatia. This ensures a faster response and a support service that can react quickly.
What is Veeam Cloud Connect Backup?
Veeam Cloud Connect Backup is a service of performing off-site backup to the MyDataKnox cloud. Simply put, you lease backup space and add it to your Veeam console.
What is CageFS and what is it used for?

How can I upgrade a cPanel license?
All active cPanel license users can upgrade or downgrade their license through MyDataKnox user website at any time.
What is R1Soft backup?
MyDataKnox R1Soft backup is a service which enables you to periodically store data on a central server located at our high-quality data centre. R1Soft is constantly monitoring your disks, tracking changes and making backup copies solely of the changing elements. You manage the service and backup copies using a web interface which enables you to recover and download individual files from the backup copy, perform a full bare-metal data recovery and a lot more.
How do I manage my dedicated server?
Depending on the selected operating system, you can manage server settings using the Remote Desktop (Windows) or SSH (Linux). You can also install a web hosting control system, such as cPanel or CentOS Web Panel. You can access basic options, such as starting, restarting, stopping, naming the server, etc. through the MyDataKnox user site.
Why does the website from my old server still appear after I’ve made changes to the DNS?
It’s possible that, during the propagation period (up to 24 hours), the old server content is still displayed to some of your website’s visitors. This is mostly due to the DNS cache of the visitor’s Internet provider, but sometimes the reason is that the pages that are stored in the Internet browser cache are those that are displayed, so your browser cache needs to be cleared.

Can I change the operating system on VPS, and how?
You can change the operating system of your VPS at any time through your MyDataKnox user website for server management. Bear in mind that you can install any operating system on a Windows VPS server, whereas there is no option of installing a Windows Server operating system on a Linux VPS server.
What is bare-metal restore?
Bare-metal restore is a quicker recovery process where all data is recovered, instead of recovering file after individual file. This function enables you to recover the integral backup copy of the server. Thanks to this kind of data recovery, it’ll be easy to restore the complete copy of the server, including:
- partitions
- the operating system
- installed application
- server settings
- drivers, etc.
Mandatory identity verification for .hr and .com.hr domains
Starting in 2025, a condition for successful registration of .hr and .com.hr domains is verification of the domain owner’s data, which means that the user is required to provide evidence that the owner’s data entered when ordering the domain is correct.

Why do I have to prove that my information is correct?
According to the Cybersecurity Act , published on February 7, 2024, the Registry and registrars of .hr domains are obliged to determine the exact identity of domain users during registration based on secure and credible systems and data sources, i.e. to verify users.
How is verification done?
The verification process in MyDataKnox is performed after payment of the offer upon completion of the domain order.
After paying for the offer, the MyDataKnox system starts a verification process consisting of three steps:
- You will receive an email to your email address with a link to verify your ordered .hr and .com.hr domains.
- When opening the link, you are allowed to select the document you want to attach as proof of identity.
- After you attach the document, a PDF statement will be generated with an overview of your information as the domain owner and the document attached in the previous step.
- By clicking the confirm button, your verification is saved in the MyDataKnox system.
- MyDataKnox support confirms or rejects the verification.
- If the verification is confirmed, your domain is registered and the verification process is complete.
In case of verification rejection, you will receive an email stating the reason for the rejection and a new link to repeat the verification process.
What documents can I use for verification?
The attached document must be one of the following:

- certificate of residence issued by the competent authority (digitally signed or stamped)
- driver’s license

Frequently asked questions
- What if I don’t verify my identity?
In case of unsuccessful verification, MyDataKnox will refund the amount paid for the domain, and the domain will not be registered.
- I clicked on the verification link, but I got the message “Your verification token has expired”
If you see a token expiration message, it means that more than 72 hours have passed since the verification email was sent and you need to request a new verification.
Simply click on the “Request New Verification” button and the process will start over
- I attached a document, but I received the message “Invalid file format. Allowed formats are: …”
If you see this message, it means that the attached document is in a format that we do not accept.
Simply return to the verification form and attach the document in an allowed format.
Allowed formats are listed in the document submission form, and certainly include JPEG and PNG formats.
- What information do I need to confirm during the verification process?
The information that is confirmed by your acceptance of the information on the generated PDF statement is: Name and surname, address, e-mail address, OIB (Croatian Tax Identification Number), and phone number.

What is a nameserver and what is it for?
In simple terms, we could describe a nameserver as a domain address book. Just like you would use an address book to look up information related to a particular person or company by name, the same goes for domains, since they also have an “address”. When you type our address mydataknox.com in your Internet browser, your computer uses DNS to retrieve the data about the nameserver containing the IP addresses linked to our domain. Afterwards, your computer requests the IP address of our web server, which, finally, sends the web page to your browser.
What is a dedicated server used for?
A dedicated server offers you top-notch performance for the purpose of hosting websites with heavy traffic, web applications, various business applications, such as CRM, ERP systems and many more. In simple terms, you can use a dedicated server for all situations in which you require high-level performance, security and complete control of the server.
What happens if the number of cPanel users exceeds the number limited by the license?
In case of “outgrowing” the maximum number of users on a server, your license will need to be upgraded to the next larger package. If the license isn’t upgraded, your access to WHM will be suspended until you upgrade the license or reduce the number of users on that server.
